About Me

Welcome and Thank You

First, I would like to thank you for visiting my website and professional profile. This website has been created to complement my professional résumé and is currently undergoing significant development. As a result, some of the content is not yet fully populated. I will update the site regularly to enhance its content. The primary focus of this website will be blog posts, including videos documenting my learning journey and exploration of new fields in IT. Now, let me take this opportunity to share my personal journey in the IT industry.

I got my first computer in 1985—a Commodore 64. At the time, I was studying Computer Science at the O level in school, where we primarily used BBC Micros. Fortunately, I was able to bring my own computer to school for these lessons and use it for programming. I started programming in BASIC before moving on to 6502 assembly language. Additionally, I used the Compunet bulletin board service, where I uploaded some of my demos. Along with a couple of school friends, I formed a small group that led to my involvement in the demo scene on the C64.

Following this, I worked for a company called Keymed in Southend as a data entry specialist and technical trainer. During that period, the company was transitioning its stock and order purchasing systems from a paper-based system to a computer-based system hosted on an IBM System/36 mainframe. I stayed with Keymed for a couple of years before deciding to explore opportunities in other fields. However, I eventually returned to IT in 2004, taking a few college courses that earned me CompTIA A+ and Microsoft Certified Professional certifications on Windows XP. This enabled me to re-enter the IT industry through a six-month contract with a local health authority.

Over the years, I have worked for numerous companies, ranging from small local firms to major international organizations, contributing to various projects as an IT support technician. Since 2016, I have held a more permanent IT role within the education sector, working at a school. This role has allowed me to use the skills and knowledge I have accumulated over the years to help shape the next generation. My goal has been to show students that learning is a lifelong process. To underscore this point, I have continued my own studies, demonstrating to the students that even as an adult, it is possible to pass exams and achieve success.

In 2022, I made the decision to move into IT consultancy, starting with a role at an AWS partner company. From there, I transitioned into a cloud security role, working primarily with CSPM and SSPM. This brings me to 2025, where I look forward to expanding my experience even further.

In addition, I have a keen interest in cybersecurity and spend much of my free time on TryHackMe—an excellent platform for learning cybersecurity concepts and gaining deeper insights into cloud environments. I plan to showcase many of these learnings in the AWS and THM blog sections of this site.

This website will also feature videos of my current learning experiences in both cloud technologies and cybersecurity. These videos will be posted on the blog page to highlight my ongoing development and showcase my skills to prospective employers, further supporting the credentials presented in my resume.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Regards,

Paul Scarlett
